Maison Mira Bay
Seven shipping containers linked and covered to form a family home in Nova Scotia.
This multi-generational summer house on the shore of Mira Bay is composed of 7 shipping containers and a wood and steel frame. The house rests on posts set into the natural shale, with south and south east facing windows looking across the bay. The main house includes living areas, kitchen and services, along with one bedroom. The other two bedrooms and the second-floor bunkhouse are accessible off the covered walkway which opens out to a deck on the water side. The house is planned as an off-grid installation, with heat from a wood stove and electricity provided by solar panels on the steel roof. The container doors allow the building to be closed down when the house is not occupied.
